NSPCWT Annual Reports and Surveys
Our annual report includes an in-depth survey of issues that are affecting parents and carers in North Somerset. Here we break down the work we have done throughout the year and its positive impact on the SEND community, as well as what we wish had played out differently.
Our Annual Survey is completed by Parent Carers within North Somerset sharing their experiences of provisions and services they have accessed. We use this information to seek improvements as we continue representing the collective voices of our community.
The Council for Disabled Children Case Study on North Somerset Parent Carers Working Together (NSPCWT) and SEND And You (SAY) SENDIAS service
In North Somerset, NSPCWT and SAY each serve vital but distinct roles in supporting families, advocating for rights, and delivering support and information services.
The resulting Memorandum of Understanding continues to provide a clear, trusted framework that helps both organisations establish and maintain a collaborative partnership grounded in transparency, mutual respect, and shared purpose.
What Works in SEND?
North Somersetβs improvement journey began in response to fractured relationships across the local SEND system. The work therefore set out to achieve three main aims:
Reset and rebuild positive relationships between key stakeholders across the local SEND system: particularly between the Parent Carer Forum, SENDIAS service, the LA and health.
Provide more coordinated support and transparency to parents and carers.
Re-form a stable Parent Carer Forum for North Somerset.
The health survey and report have been developed collaboratively by the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Parent Carer Forums. Together, they provide a helpful overview of the experiences, priorities, and concerns shared by SEND parent carers across BNSSG regarding healthcare for their children and young people.
The survey was open from 1 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, and we were grateful to receive 551 responses from parent carers across the area, whose feedback has helped shape this report.
Parent Carer & Stakeholder priorities for NSPCWT
To support our priority development within our draft strategic aims document, Parent Carers have been responding to our survey placing areas of potential NSPCWT provision in priority order for them.

Autism Assessment Survey
The BNSSG Parent Carer forums recently ran a survey gathering feedback from Parent Carers in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) to find out families experiences and thoughts regarding autism assessment.
We wanted to see what difference a diagnosis made or could actually make whether you had a child either diagnosed with autism, or currently awaiting assessment.
Keyworker Report
This report has been created jointly by South Glos Parent Carers and North Somerset Parent Carers Working Together. It shows familiesβ views regarding Care education and treatment reviews (CETR) and how Key workers could help those Young people with a Learning disability or Autism to prevent being admitted to hospital.
The SENDIAS (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support) Service has been looked at across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) to make sure it is working in the ways that families need, while still meeting national standards.
To help with this, the Parent Carer Forums (PCFS) across BNSSG hosted a joint online listening event with staff from Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils. Bristol Parent Carers also held a smaller in-person session and gathered views passively via online bookings for other events.
PCFS across BNSSG usually try to give families 6-8 weeks notice for events, but due to local commissioning schedules, the events had a shorter lead-in time of just 4 weeks.
